God's Wisdom + Your Faithfulness = Success!
I don’t know about you, but I love the Word of God! I’ll admit that even though I have a passion to teach, there have been times when I haven’t been in the Word as much as I should. But lately, the Lord has been making the Word alive to me, and I want to share a nugget that He showed me recently.
You know how sometimes we can approach a certain book of the bible in the same way as always? For example, every time before this time now when I read Daniel, I thought that the focus was on all his revelations. I mean, he was a prophet, right?
Yes, he was! However, this time as I read his story, I saw something that I had never seen before. Daniel didn’t rise to be the right hand man of the King, just because of hard work. Rather, it was because of God’s wisdom and Daniel’s faithfulness.
You know, we seem to have this idea that the way people will know that we serve the Lord is by “letting our light shine”. Now, often what that means is that we just need to work hard and be honest and be nice to people. I mean, there is nothing wrong with any of those things, but that is not what will catapult you to success and that will make you the envy of the world.
Rather, it is being completely faithful in all that the Lord gives you, and using wisdom! Well, faithfulness I think we all get, but what is wisdom? Quite simply, it’s the ability to use knowledge, and in this day and age there is more knowledge than ever before.
Answers as to how to do anything are just a search a way. So what makes you special, child of God? Is it how much you know? No, because there is always someone who knows more. Is it how much you work? No, because there is always going to be someone who works harder. Tell me, what makes the difference?
Well, I’ll tell you what made the difference for Joseph, Daniel, and Solomon: God’s wisdom. And, do you know what the amazing thing is? It is there for the taking if you would just ask for it! That is what the first chapter of Proverbs is all about. Wisdom is going through the streets shouting at the top of her lungs, saying come to me all you who are simple, and learn from me. That way you will never have lack again.
I understand being in a tough place in life, where you just need a miracle. God is well able to send manna into your life; that miraculous provision where it is enough to sustain you. But, if you want to move beyond just subsistence, and want to move to abundance, it is going to take getting wisdom, and diligently applying that wisdom.
The problem is that wisdom comes up out of your spirit, and not from your head. So if you are going to hear God speak, you need to take time to quiet your soul and listen for His voice.
So I encourage you this week to do just that. Find a place where you can be alone, and hold your situation up to the Lord, asking Him for wisdom on what to do. Then be still and hear His voice. Then, the most important thing: do what He tells you to do!
Sometimes the wisdom that God gives you won’t make sense to you at all, or, it might be just a small thing in your own eyes, but I promise you if you do this consistently, you will see how wise our God truly is! You will benefit so much from continually listening to His voice.
May you walk in His blessing and in His wisdom!
